Interesting tidbits about presentations…
I was attending an presentation on public speaking today, and here were two interesting tidbits of information :
What an audience thinks of when you first start your presentation:
30% Admire (the speaker)
30% Info
30% Not Available
10% Critic
So only 10% really worry about your presentation. No need to be anxious about the speech.
Second, a good way to model the entire speaking process is to think of this archery analogy:
Archer -> Bow -> Arrow -> Target
Speaker -> Tools -> Message -> Audience
Particularly, focus is key for the speaker. The message should be a script, not an essay. And know the audience.
Finally, my mind, it has been blown by this:

Expanding this before it dies…
Not forgotten yet. shall be posted once i get home.
[edit]
So I fell asleep before I posted, sorry!
Anyways, writing about nothing, and writing about writing is hard. After a week of this, I think I can only go on for so long. Unlike a certain fat cat who hates Mondays, I can only write about nothing for so long (4 days, I guess) before I get bored. Hopefully, this was before you were bored of the same ond stuff each day.
So, instead, in the future you’ll get to hear (random) things from me. What, you may not be able to guess, but why spoil the surprise?
Signning off, until later (today), get writing (about something you know. well)!

Vindication…

There are only two obstacles to successful writing. They are fear and lack of desire. Fear can be overcome. Lack of desire is a terminal affliction.

Get the paper and pencil or sit at the keyboard and write. What do you have to write – a sales report, a letter of recommendation, a plan to improve some function or some other writing activity? All require a start – so start! No rules – just start! In fact, stop reading this article and begin. You can come back after the first 50 words are written.
So, I guess that I’m here to fulfill the 50 words that are required before I pass go again.
Luckily, that’s easy enough to do. So at least, there is now justification for the time I have been spending on this silly pet project of mine.
Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some of the benefits of this fairly soon.
You only get better at the things that you do, So I guess the more you write, the better you get.
Little gimmicks like this helps. And, you should really bug me if I don’t post here daily. After the speed test yesterday, we know there is definitely time to do this everyday.
Start Writing. Now. Just, Do it Now.
And here are 50 tips

There and back in 180…
This is a speed drill. We are going to see how long it takes to hit 100 words today. The reason? Because I have lots to say, but nothing that can be written up in with my current schedule. As a result, I have resorted to these gimmicks to see how fast to see when we can hit the targetted milestone.
An other option, one that is coming in the future is to write an “in-class essay” within the 1-hour time frame that is expected of the such an essay. This will be good preparation for future standardised testing that shall come up.

130 (unedited) words in 3 minutes. I am getting better at this, eh?

Arts students…
Against all suggestions to the contrary, I will not be changing my limit quite yet. Having only started this a week ago, any changes in the daily count would definitely be premature. After a month or so, I am sure that if I have consistently been writing here, then my word count should naturally rise. Obliviously, acting like a drunk arts student would get my word count up, but I think that is defeating the point of “learning to write better”, don’t you think?
This has been a short post, due to the large amount of work still to go. It’s meta posts for the next few weeks.

A actual post this time…
just kidding! Had you going there, didn’t I?
I don’t really have that much to say today, so this will be a meta-post about this whole experiment.
One of the really strange things that I’ve notice since embarking on this experiment is that 100 words is becoming shorter and shorter. Of course, these are 100 words of unedited ramblings, no not ravings, that we’re talking about, but it’s really not that much. And it seems to get easier to write each time.
The other thing that I’ve noticed is that I seem to enjoy writing more than before. I’m sure that this feeling with disappear in about a week, but it’s nice to at least trick myself into thinking that I enjoy writing for the past few days. The proof is really in seeing how long I can keep this up, isn’t it?
Oh, and to follow up on that last post, I’m going to start writing these elsewhere before posting to wordpress so they don’t disappear into netherland.
So get writing! who knows, you might even enjoy it.

Windows is hungry…
and ate my post.
I had hundreds and hundreds of words written up all ready to post as soon as I get internet access. Okay, they weren’t great words, but they would still have counted towards my word count of the day.
Windows went into hibernated to save power and didn’t want to recover from the hibernation file. And now my words are gone.
Browser writers, please, please, please, add some mechanism of saving posts and recover them when the application isn’t shut down properly. Add a “please persist until…” option for the us. So when we shoot ourselves in the foot (and browse away from the page), our entire post is still there. Or, when the application or the operating system, we can come back to all our little words sitting pretty on the screen, just waiting for the “publish” button to be clicked so they can be all that they can be.
Until next time, get writing. (Yes, this additional line counts too. And so does this.

The meaning of life…
…of this blog. Or were you hoping for something more awe-inspiring?
So what’s the purpose of this blog? None, really. The sole, and I mean the ONLY one (with no hidden ulterior motives), purpose of this is provide an outlet for my 100 words per day (average).
Why? Because you only get better at things that you do often, and this is a good way to write. This may or may not develop actual content or “value”, but we shall see how this evolves.
Why 100 words? Because 500 words in one day is too many. Yes, it’s possible to write one of those in about an hour, but that would feel like too much like high school. And it’s an additional hour on top of the already too many commitments that I have. But with 100 words, I can come up with something in about 10 minutes, and it’s just enough to say something useful, or not as you see in this post.
So until tomorrow, or my next 2000 word essay, get writing.
